Portrait of a jumping spider

These are photos of a large multi-colored jumping spider my son found in Ohio. It is mostly brown but has distinctive orange blotches on its abdomen as well as a iridescent green stripe down its back.

It dropped from high in a maple tree, carrying with it a dead bug. I cannot be certain, but I think the spider's catch is an assassin bug.

I do not believe they are poisonous to humans. However, you should always exercise caution if handling a spider. I've held them without incident. But spiders generally can bite... and I'm sure that some people can have adverse reactions to spiders that are generally harmless.

I just caught one of these because it looked really interesting. I found it in Ohio as well and I was trying to figure out which type of spider it was, and now I know. :D
