When he was 80, it was my Dad's last week and Sugar knew what was happening. On one of my Father's bad event nights, and we were gathered around him, I backed up and stepped on Sugar's paws and what amazed me he didn't yelp, bark and when I tried to apologize he looked at me as if to say, I know. They brought back a lot of memories. I had a Golden for almost 18 years and when he passed on it was like someone had ripped my hearth out. I thought I would never get over the pain but as time went by I was able to look at a Golden without starting to cry and four years later I felt I was ready for another dog so, I now have two smaller dogs (I could never have another Golden) and they bring me a lot of comfort and joy.
