Not Mine To Know
If only I knew what is to be,
I would plan my life accordingly.
I could be more aware of obvious signs,
Subtle changes and mysterious times.
I would anticipate each breaking day,
And try not to let fate have it's own way.
My every step would be taken with care,
And many a day would be shrouded with fear.
I would worry and fret,
No sleep would I get.
No laughter or joy
could I ever employ.
For happiness attained
In fortune or fame,
Would seem but in vain,
If tomorrow brings pain.
But I have no idea of what is to come,
Of future disasters, or pleasures or fun.
I desire not to know what tomorrow will bring,
For it's God's business only to know everything.
I'll deal with the bad times the best I know how,
And be grateful for good times all, then and now.

For happiness attained
In fortune or fame,
Would seem but in vain,
If tomorrow brings pain.
But I have no idea of what is to come,
Of future disasters, or pleasures or fun.

For it's God's business only to know everything.

And be grateful for good times all, then and now.
