Don't Stand Too Close

Don't Stand Too Close

Don't get too close
My teeth are sharp.
Don't look too deep
My eyes are red.
All that you hope
Has left my heart;
All that you seek
Has left my bed.

I am a dangerous echo
Trapped in flesh.
The soft corners of my soul
Are caked in scabs
And scars that will never go.
All that I have is anger and pride
And painful reminders inside…
I always wanted your smile
And your warmth at my side…

My heart lies in shards
That can cut your hands.
Don't worry about the mess;
Were I stronger I'd take care of thee
But I have now only the strength
To look after me.
Don't stand too close
Because I'm falling wearily.
