Dragonfly Photos
The dragonfly is an amazing predatory insect. Its flying abilities are spectacular, as it can hover at one spot and then zip with lightning speed after some prey. Dragonflies are very alert, and with their big, multi-faceted eyes, see their surroundings well--it's hard to sneak up on a dragonfly. I used a telelphoto for most of these photos, though I was able to get close enough to use a macro lens on some of the shots. Dragonflies are predators. They eat mosquitos and practically any juicy insect that flies.

Capturing a dragonfly in flight is especially challenging. This was one of four shots I got trying to photograph dragonfly flight for over an hour.
