The Unfaced Foe

Feverish and no more awake
with an ebbing chill-covered sweat,
the epic battle wages
with millions of soul-bound soldiers
marching mindlessly, single-mindedly,
to fight the unfaced foe--
the reaper of savaged past.
Each blood pounding step
clash weapons anciently forged
against bitter hate, blind fate;
one more rush and defeat
brings down the banners of one more round.
Victories taken through this war
have never lasted the journeys
crossing each horizon's new shore.
