Statues Go Away

Warm light filters old thoughts
in this ancient land;
The scars etched on these trees
show hidden triumphs and forgotten disease.
Some stones stand still
whilst others lie buried and sanded and smooth;
And all the while time blows away--
Statues go away--
But they never move.
