Mountain Lion
The Mountain Lion (known as the Cougar, Panther and other names) is a majestic animal. I have never had the pleasure of seeing one in the wild. Fortunately, the Columbus Zoo has a cougar on display. Right now the display includes a cougar and her large cub.
Usually the cougars at the zoo are hidden away in their dark den. I was fortunate enough to see one pacing outside once in bright sunlight. As soon as I find the photo I took of it (years ago) I will post it here. The eyes were very sharp and vibrant.
I was recently informed about the situation of the Florida Panther. Defenders of Wildlife contacted me to use a photo of my dog Dewey in their upcoming brochure about the Florida Panther. According to Defenders, many people report sightings of the Florida Panther—but there are only about 100 animals remaining in the wild. It turns out that a large percentage of the sightings are of bobcats and domestic dogs (such as golden retrievers) mistaken as panthers.
