August 23, 2005 Newsletter

There has been a lot of chaos on the site in the last week. We experienced a major crash on the server that forced us to reload the operating system. This site and all other sites on the server were down for a day and a half as Andrew and I got the server back to normal. We believe (tentatively) that a popular third-party blogging system called Wordpress caused the crash; it has a security hole when a server setting called “register_globals” is turned on.

With the crash and other work, I have had little time to make new creative work. Not to mention I’ve been dealing with the infamous Err 99 on my Canon 10D camera—stopping me from getting many new photos. I think I’ve fixed the problem, and hope to get new photos up soon.

In other news, I have removed the Subscription Rocket system from the site. It was the means by which most of you signed up for this newsletter. While it served well for a couple of years, it has become less effective in the past few weeks. Today I added the last batch of new subscriptions and then removed Subscription Rocket entirely.

That’s it for this week. Look forward to some new mazes, Counter-Strike maps, and some new insect photos in the coming weeks. Also, don’t forget to see the Global Artistic Network.
