He Whom I Know
Rummaging across the shadows
of my life
My head feels compressed with
heavy drunkenness.
My demon calls me noble
Yet I cannot dispel the
constant notion that
I am no more noble
than a shady whisper
drooling from the mouth
of a cheating vagrant.
What is an image
but a wasted thought
captured away from the soul?
My name is an image
that has only a dark and blurred reflection
of he whom I know.
Note: This poem was selected for publication in a Poetry.com book... which can be ordered at Poetry.com. Of course I noticed that Poetry.com doesn't set the bar very high for admission; still, I was pleased to hear that they are including this poem in their annual audio recording of poetry. If the information they gave me is accurrate, "He Whom I Know" was one of only 33 poems selected for that honor this year (2003).
The poem was also printed in "Theatre of Mind" in the UK.
But it may not be that great of an honor afterall... Arno from PoetryIn-e-Motion contacted me from Finland and expressed concerns with the business practices of Poetry.com. I don't know either way since I never purchased my copy of books or recording.
